Lesson Approach

Halsnead Non-Core Teaching Approach

The Halsnead teaching approach is a structure that supports the retention and application of knowledge and vocabulary.

It is based on the principles of metacognition and encourages children to plan, monitor and evaluate their own learning.

Throughout each stage of learning, staff use strategies to engage, motivate and assess. Teachers will adapt their strategies, during the learning process, based on the feedback they receive from pupils.

Connect - activate prior knowledge

Focus - explicit teaching and modelling

Practice - opportunities for pupils to have a go

Check - teachers use a range of strategies to check that pupils have understood
